better art through cool living...
I was thinking back on the morning of September 11th, my birthday. Everyday since that tragedy I have been filled with a sense of anxiety, and urgency. 2 weeks later, on September 26th, I walked into my company of employment and handed in my resignation.
Those feelings have still not fully gone away but I am filled with a new sense of purpose. I still wonder if I made the right choice, but everytime I finish an illustration, I get a sense of satisfaction I have never achieved with any previous job, creative or otherwise.
I also have to tell you that just before writing this, I picked out an old dog-eared copy of OMNI to take to bed with me and opened it up to 'Count the Clock that tells Time' by Harlan Elison. This is a copy I bought when I was 15 years old (20 years ago!) and yet I never recalled reading this particular story - very strange.
Having finished it.. I understand now why I never started it. I get this sense that it has been sitting there patiently, waiting for me to discover it - along with the rest of my dreams I packed away so many years ago.
