As an artist, I strive to capture a sense of the wonder and mysteries I see all around me. Surrounded by woods and fields, my home in the Catskill Mountains looks out on mountains with everchanging light. Many of my paintings have elements from the Catskills and Ashokan Reservoir.

At a writing workshop, author Charles de Lint said, "No one else will write your stories." His words inspired me to discover that the best way for me to tell my deepest and truest stories is through my paintings. Charles Vess taught me to think about what is happening outside the painting. I want viewers to bring their own stories and find their own meaning in my paintings.

Creating fantasy paintings brings me into the worlds I imagine. Fantasy was always my favorite genre to read, but I had worked as a portrait artist, and it was only in the last few years that I started to paint the fantasy images I saw in my mind. I often will sketch the basic ideas for a painting, then look for reference images and models to bring the ideas to life.

I believe there is always much more to be learned and I'm grateful to professor Roger Hendricks of Purchase College, SUNY for his guidance, and to the community of artists who study with me at Purchase. IÕm inspired by Sheila and Omar Rayyan and Donato Giancola.

Science Fiction Book Club recently commissioned me to create the cover art for The Firebringer Trilogy by Meredith Ann Pierce. For information on commissioned work, please send an email.

Enjoy the paintings. All the images on are copyrighted. If you copy images from this site, please provide an artist's credit and a link back to my site.
