Martin has been working as a freelance artist for many years, and has been lucky enough to work almost exclusively with fantasy, horror and SF themes during his career so far. He has enjoyed a long association with the games industry, previously with role-playing and board games, and now with computer games.

His career began with commissions from Games Workshop in 1986, when Martin was 17 years old and still in full-time education. Other work followed later, for Hasbro and Parker Games, and Wizards of the Coast and Palladium Books. In the wider field of publishing, his cover paintings and illustrations have been used by Penguin Books, Usborne Books, Oxford University Press and Carroll & Graf, among others.

His work for Interzone magazine led him to be voted favourite artist by readers for two consecutive years. In 1995, his work earned him The British Fantasy Award for Best Artist from The British Fantasy Society.

Martin's grounding in traditional media is now coupled with his use of digital techniques, and most recently he has been producing graphics for computer games. For two years he has been a development team artist with Eidos Interactive, publishers of the Tomb Raider games.

Recent freelance work has included covers for Margaret Weis & Tracy Hickman and Anne McCaffrey books from HarperCollins and Little Brown. The illustrations for a new edition of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde. New cover artwork for the relaunch of the Fighting Fantasy gamebook series. And production design for a forthcoming interactive fantasy television series.

He is currently busy working freelance on all kinds of new projects, from his studio at home.
