Leo Winstead was born and raised in Minnesota, where he attended the Minneapolis College of Art & Design to study animation and illustration.
 
After a brief internship with Dreamworks SKG in the summer of 1998, Leo went on to design products for the Paper Magic Group. In addition, Leo has been involved with creating storyboards for television and film and as a stop-motion animator for Space Bass Films. Most recently, Leo has been involved in painting covers for the Gor series and is developing an independent short film, "The Maple Tree."
 
Growing up, Leo was influenced by comic artists such as Todd McFarlane and John Byrne as well as the Old Masters and contemporary science fiction and fantasy artists. Leo works in all traditional mediums (oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, etc.) as well as digital programs (Photoshop). Leo currently lives in Hollywood, California and is pursuing work as a freelance illustrator and animator.
